New Life |

I did this picture as part of a series of artworks based on the Stations of the Cross. The artworks were all done by artists living in Northwood and were displayed in the local community in the weeks around Easter last year.

My piece, based on the station “Jesus is stripped”, features a tree in the street where I live. My neighbours were both amused and bemused by the sight of me standing on a chair on the pavement taking close ups of the tree’s branches.

The work is a meditation on the transforming power of Easter, and the way this is echoed in the new life of Spring after the temporary death of Winter. The phrase I have quoted comes from Matthew 25 v36 where it also reads as a call to us to help others; to feed the hungry, care for the sick, welcome the stranger and clothe the naked.”
